Comparisons of the reported nuclear magnetic resonance, dielectric, and thermally stimulated polarization/depolarization current data were made between poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVF2) and alkali silicate glass and close resemblances were found, from which it was suggested that the dominant charge carriers for conduction in PVF2 would possibly be the protons, that the αc peak is due to conduction polarization of the protons which are associated with a crystalline phase, and that the poling process is equal to the charge injection from the anode. It was suggested also that the electric field caused by those injected charges sustains conduction polarization of the protons, the change of which with temperature or with the mechanical stress would give rise to pyro- or piezoelectricity.
