This paper revisits research investigating errors in rainfall measurement, principally those due to the effect of wind on the standard Met Office gauge. This gauge usually catches less than what would reach the ground in its absence, causing a systematic error. Results previously reported for the station at Wallingford are updated. The issues surrounding errors in rainfall measurement are discussed together with the consequences for their applications.
