Dietary mercury administered to young broilers at the levels of 0, 5, 25, 125, and 250 p.p.m. via the drinking water did not affect the chemical continuity of the blood. The plasma levels of total glucose, protein, lipid, cholesterol, uric acid, and hemoglobin were not altered consistently at 2, 4, and 6 weeks of age. The blood pH was not affected significantly at 6 weeks of age. These results indicate that the mechanism of mercury toxicity in young chickens is not reflected by the principal circulating metabolic indicators.
