A new electrooptic phenomenon manifesting itself as a field-stimulated change in the optical axes plane is observed in the ferroelectric liquid crystal DOBAMBC. The phenomenon makes an anal-ogon of the thermooptical Mitscherlich effect observed in some solid biaxial crystals. The dependence of the angle between the optical axes on electric field and temperature is determined. It is shown that the existing theories do not explain the observed phenomenon.
