SUMMARY A method of construction and randomization of designs for experiments for studying intergenotypic competition is given. These designs are like row complete latin squares, but they include border plots, which are necessary under field conditions. These border plots permit intra-block randomization without destroying the neighbour-balance property. In several cases it is proved that the design is connected even under a general competition model.
