Why the study?
The appropriate interval for effective analgesia when the dural puncture epidural technique is followed by programmed intermittent epidural bolus remained to be determined.
What is the optimal time interval between programmed intermittent epidural boluses for effective analgesia when combined with the dural puncture epidural technique for labor?
What is the optimal time interval between programmed intermittent epidural boluses for effective analgesia when combined with the dural puncture epidural technique for labor?
This study investigates the optimal timing interval for programmed intermittent epidural boluses to maintain effective labor analgesia following a dural puncture epidural technique.
May refine labor analgesia timing; leaves open validation in larger trials before practice change.
( Anesth Analg. 2023;136:532–539) Neuraxial labor analgesia has advanced to include the dural puncture epidural (DPE) and the programmed intermittent epidural bolus (PIEB) techniques. This study aimed to test the appropriate interval for effective analgesia when the DPE technique is followed by the PIEB technique. This study used fixed volumes of PIEB at 10 mL of ropivacaine 0.1% and 0.5 mg/mL of sufentanil.
