“In situ” electron irradiation of sodalite in the transmission electron microscope (TEM) results in formation of radiolytic damage in the form of chlorine ion voids and chlorine gas bubbles. The chlorine ion-voids are identical with metallic sodium particles. The damaging process is discussed in terms of point defects and radiation induced voidage. The latter is confined to the chlorine ion sublattice.
