How do cardiovascular responses to physiological tests differ between long-standing diabetics with autonomic dysfunction and normal subjects?
Long-standing diabetes with autonomic dysfunction is associated with considerably reduced cardiovascular autonomic nerve activity.
Summary: The case histories of two long-standing diabetics with symptoms and signs of autonomic dysfunction are presented and a comparison made between the cardiovascular responses of these patients and a group of normal subjects to a series of physiological tests. The results of these tests confirmed that cardiovascular autonomic nerve activity was considerably reduced in the patients though the pattern of autonomic loss was not the same in the two individuals.
