The European Palaces of the Yuanmingyuan ideal restored. Built for the most part between 1747 and 1759 by Jesuits working for the Qianlong Emperor, the European Palaces of the Yuanmingyuan, burnt in 1860, are now the object of an extensive study undertaken in Paris by the Mission Palais d'Été. An important part of the work consists in a restoration of the site, based on 18th century engravings, early 20th century architectural studies, and old photographs. This article presents the method used for the restorations, and the results obtained at this point.
