Solutions of s 2 N 2 in dichloromethane react with antimony pentachloride (in excess) to form a diadduct s 2 N 2 (SbC1 5 ) 2 which can further react with s 2 N 2 to form a monoadduct s 2 N 2 SbC1 5 .The monoadduct can be reconverted to the diadduct by treatment with SbC1 5 .The physical and chemical properties of these compounds indicate that the S 2 N 2 ring structure is maintained intact.Th.e monoadduct s 2 N 2 SbC1 5 reacts irreversibly.with s 2 N 2 to form both the previously characterized s 4 N 4 SbC1 5 and, in lower yields, a less reactive material (s 4 N 4 SbC1 5 )x.Antimony pentachloride acts as a catalyst for the dimerization of s 2 N 2 .' ! .j ' f !! .'I',
