This research aims to evaluate the effects of intrastromal corneal ring segment implantation on visual acuity in patients with recurrent keratoconus after keratoplasty.
A 50-year-old woman with recurrent keratoconus underwent the implantation of two intrastromal corneal ring segments using a femtosecond laser.
The segments (0.15 mm and 0.25 mm) were inserted 15 years after penetrating keratoplasty with no complications.
Visual acuity was assessed 10 months post-operation.
Uncorrected visual acuity improved from counting fingers preoperatively to 20/100 after 10 months.
Best spectacle-corrected visual acuity improved from 20/63 to 20/32 post-implantation.
Long-term effects of this intervention remain unknown.
