Updates on Critical Theory in Architecture

Aim: The aim of this paper is to reveal the updates in critical architectural theory since the last century. They lead the concept of criticism to change. This conceptual change also leads the concepts of novelty and creativity to change using in architectural terminology. Method: The method of sampling is used to reveal these changes (or updates) in the paper. The samples are mainstream critical theories and critical designs. It is revealed through these samples that critical architectural theory has significantly changed. Results: Criticism in architecture has generally been limited to theory. That’s why; critical theory has mainly been discussed rather than critical design. The recent updates in critical architectural theory have led the concepts of criticism and criticality to change in architecture. Yet criticality has generally been defined and discussed as novelty. However instant shares, likes and experiences have recently defined novelty. And criticality has been discussed as capturing and criticizing these instant changes. It is the novelty of the new critical architecture. Conclusion: Instantaneity is one of the recent concepts using in architectural terminology. The computer technologies have created a new medium for architecture by promoting instant changes and novelties. And criticism has been struggling for being a part of this medium nowadays.
