A house to house, cross sectional, symptom elucitation, survey was conducted in two randomly selected districts of Western Uttar Pradesh, (Banda and Kanpur Nagar). This was as per the common national format to assess the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis in the community aged 15 years, developed by the Central Tuberculosis Division (CTD), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The study was undertaken after taking informed written consent of all subjects.
