Weight loss and polarization studies showed that 2-mercaptobenzoxazole is effective for the inhibition of low-carbon steel over a wide concentration range of aqueous phosphoric acid (H3PO4) solutions. The inhibitor retards the anodic and cathodic corrosion reaction with emphasis on the former. Results for uninhibited acid solution confirm the kinetic expression proposed by Mathur.
