This is apparently the first record of coconuts in turbidites. The rocks can be assigned to a mid-submarine-fan environment and are part of the accretionary prism of the late Cenozoic volcanic arc in northern New Zealand. The climate was marginally tropical. These turbidites may have been formed by the surge of sediment and debris carried offshore by tsunamis. This content is PDF only. Please click on the PDF icon to access.
