The ovarian cancer takes the fifth place among the reasons of oncological mortality in women. In Ukraine mortality from the disease remains high and constitutes 10 women of each 100 thousand of the female population. The aim of the work consisted in the analysis of the modern scientific literature concerning classification of tumor markers, diagnostic and prognostic significance of determining oncofetal antigen СА-125 in case of tumor process in the ovaries. The analysis of the world literature testifies to the fact that the method for determination of CA-125 content cannot be used for differential diagnostics of benign and malignant neoplasms. However, high sensitivity of the method (from 75 to 90%) is promising for diagnostics of a recurrence of malignant neoplasms, postoperative period monitoring and prediction of the disease course. It was analysed that the method for its content determination cannot be used for differential diagnostics of benign and malignant neoplasms, however high sensitivity of the method is promising for identification of a recurrence of malignant neoplasms, postoperative period monitoring and prediction of the disease course. It was determined that increase of CA-125 antigen content to 65 unit/ml testifies to presence of a benign neoplasm, with increase of the said value indicating presence of a malignant neoplasm. Sensitivity of determining CA-125 content for diagnostics of I stage of ovarian carcinoma constitutes not more than 50%, constituting 80% for the early detection of recurring ovarian carcinoma. It was established that the postoperative rate of reduction in CA-125 level reflects the degree of the operation radicality, efficiency of non-adjuvant chemotherapy and represents an important factor for prediction of survival of patients with ovarian carcinoma. In the postoperative period a higher level of CA-125 in the blood serum is an index of the residual tumor, with gradual increase of CA-125 content testifying to the tumor progression. It was shown that the rate of reduction of CA-125 level at early stages of chemotherapy represents an important factor for prediction of survival of patients with ovarian carcinoma
