A novel multiscale vesselness based bilateral filter effectively enhances blood vessels in medical images by removing noise and preserving distal structures.
May aid vessel visualization in noisy images; leaves open prospective clinical validation before adoption.
A novel bilateral filter based method for vessel enhancement on medical images is presented. The proposed approach incorporates the multiscale vesselness measurement into the bilateral filter and thus can correctly remove noise while preserving distal vessel structures. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
