There is a simple rule to design a robust linear Power‐System Stabilizer (PSS) which is optimal independent of the network structure and operation point. Only the setting of voltage regulator determines the adjusting parameters. The paper shows the behaviour of such a PSS if two different modes of power swings occur. Both are damped as quickly as possible if the load angle of the generator does not become negative or larger than 90°.
