T frequency with which neoplasms metastasize to the central nervous system. It is based upon data derived from 9,114 autopsies.Consideration is directed to the possible modifying influence exerted by the age of the patient upon the rate of central nervous system metas tases. MATERIALS AND METHODSThe autopsies were performed at Kings County Hospital during the period from 1953 to 1962.They represent all postmortem subjects during this time interval in which the central nervous system was available for examination. The general autopsy procedures were effected, in rotation, by the resident physicians in pathology. The central nervous system studies were made by one of the authors (S.A.).In all cases, the intracranial contents were dissected and at least 11 blocks of tissue were taken for histological examination.
