The refractive index dispersion of different arsenic chalcogenide glasses is analyzed by the use of a two‐term Sellmeier dispersion formula. In a region from 3 μm up to the beginning of the absorption edge the wavelength dependence of the refractive index can be described by a single oscillator model. At wavelengths λ j , determined by λ 1 j , = const, the molar refraction of the different glasses is a linear function of n eff λ . In representations R M = R M ( neff ) and R M = R M (λ ) the influence of the structure of the different glasses is clearly illustrated. For the glass AsSe 3 a special short‐range order is indicated.
