Is plasma homocysteine level associated with arterial stiffness in Korean adults?
Elevated homocysteine was associated with arterial stiffness in middle-aged Korean men; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective trials before clinical adoption.
Background: Elevated plasma homocysteine appears to be causally related to atherosclerosis by inducing both endothelial dysfunction and vascular structure alteration. Brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity, a non-invasive means of measuring atherosclerosis, reflects arterial stiffness. In this study, we investigated the association between the plasma homocysteine level and arterial stiffness in Korean adults.
