Two distinct disorders of the liver have been produced in animals by defective diets. The first is a fatty infiltration of the liver.which proceeds slowly to cirrhosis of the portal type. The second is acute necrosis, which, if not fatal, is followed by post-necrotic scarring and nodular hyperplasia. The two lesions may sometimes commingle, and not all workers would agree that they can be sharply differentiated.
