Gait restoration after stroke is a major concern of neurological rehabilitation. The article focuses on gait evaluation suitable for clinical purposes, newly derived principles of therapy favoring a task-specific, repetitive approach, and novel treatment techniques. Treadmill training with partial body weight support, automated gait rehabilitation, functional electrical stimulation, rhythmic auditory cueing, and botulinum toxin treatment of focal spasticity are presented. Further, practical aspects on canes and orthoses complete the article.
