SummaryIt is known that renal lesions arise in rheumatoid arthritis (r.a.), but different explanations of their etiology have been given. Selective studies of renal function in 24 patients with r.a. in different stages were made. The investigation has not shown any evidence for the idea that these lesions were caused by abuse of phenacetin. The result, which will be supplemented later by electron-microscope studies of biopsy material, indicates that the renal lesions in r.a. in some cases may be caused by a more or less developed amyloidosis.
