Adsorption studies of Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae to a new, flexible and robust activated carbon in the form of a cloth, have revealed it to be capable of removing large numbers of microorganisms from suspension. Under the conditions used, Langmuir‐type adsorption of E. coli was obtained and the monolayer coverage predicted by this adsorption isotherm was backed up by both microscopic examination and estimations of available surface area. Applications in fermentation technology, medicine and downstream processing have been suggested.
