We calculate the effective dielectric constant ε of a composite medium containing metallic particles, characterized by the Drude dielectric function εD. The value of εD is so high that the factor |2πrεD1/2λ| is of the order of unity. We compare our results with those given by the Bruggeman mixing rule, and with the results given by the mixing rule valid under the small-particle approximation published earlier. The enhancement in the Im (ε) is up to 2 to 3 orders of magnitude larger than the values given by the Bruggeman mixing rule. However, our new results are lower (by a factor of 2 to 10) than the results we previously obtained.
