The change of electroluminescent radiation of diodes during evaporation was investigated. It is shown that a diode, when a.c. operated during evaporation, can be used to monitor its film thickness. At room temperature, the light output increases about 35% for quarter wavelength films of . Monitoring diodes are also used to improve the transmittance of filters from 44% to 85% at wavelengths of about 0.9µ near the band gap.
