Cationic and anionic siloxane surfactants containing dicyclopentadienyl moieties were prepared and investigated with regard to their interfacial behaviour. The decrease in c.m.c. and surface tension as well as the specific area requirements were determined and correlated to structural factors. A model considering the three major impacts, namely the siloxane backbone methyl groups tendency to orientate in low energetic conformations, the dispersion forces of the dicyclopentadienyl moiety and, finally the polar interactions of the head group and its surrounding on the orientaion of these surfactants on interfaces was produced.
