A set of classical electrostatic equations is developed to study the charging behaviour of polymers under focused electron beam irradiation. The calculated results reveal the dependences of the space charge trapped in a polymer under focused electron beam irradiation on the relative permittivity, the radiation-induced conductivity of the sample and the irradiation conditions, which agree well with previous experimental results.
