The isotope shift due to nuclear motion is calculated for the 2 1 S, 2 3 S terms of helium, using wave functions which take account of configuration interaction. Agreement is obtained with the experimental term shifts within the limits of experimental error. It is concluded that isotope shifts in helium are due mainly to nuclear motion.
