Experiments were conducted in a glasshouse at Dokki Research and Training Site, Agricultural Research Center, for the two successive seasons of 1991192 and 1992193 in a recirculating system. Media tested were: (1) soil (S); (2) peat moss + sand + vermiculite (1 : 1 : 1-v/vlv) mixture (PSV); (3) peat moss only (P); (4) peat + vermiculite (1:l v/v) mixture (PV); (5) peat + sand (1:l vh) mixture (PS); and (6) rock wool (RW). The experiments confirmed the possibility of recirculating the drained soluhon for cucumber grown under protected cultivation. Peat-based mixtures gave better results than the soil control.
