Single-component plasmas are found to exhibit a reversal in the roles of cyclotron and upper hybrid resonances familiar in neutral plasmas. There is a global resonance at the cyclotron frequency ω=Ω≡qB/mc and a local field cancellation at layers where ω=Ω₁=(Ω²-ωₚ²)1/2, ωₚ being the local plasma frequency. Thermal effects limit the amplitude of the global resonance and produce energy absorption at the ω=Ω₁ layers.
