The ionization of CS₂ by electron impact has been studied. It has been found that the CS₂⁺, CS⁺, S⁺ and C⁺ ions are produced at 10.4±{}0.2, 14.7±{}0.5, 14.0±{}0.5 and 21.5±{}1.0 volts, respectively. The absence of S₂⁺ ions and the high appearance potential for C⁺ indicate a linear molecule. By raising the filament temperature free CS and S₂ are produced and their I.P.'s determined as 10.6±{}0.3 and 10.7±{}0.3 volts. Heats of dissociation for various processes are deduced from the experimental data.
