The shooting method, used previously by the writer to analyze frames, arches, columns, and tie-rods, is applied to cables. For any loading condition, including the weight of the cable itself, and for any strain-stress relationship, the method converges directly to the final shape of the cable, even when the sag and extensibility are large. Results are presented for several examples, and comparisons are made with previous solutions in the literature.
