AbstractProcess safety and product quality is the goal which people unremittingly pursuit. In this paper, the hot issues of the process statistical modeling, online monitoring, fault diagnosis, and quality prediction and the solution methods based on the multivariate statistical techniques for each issue are discussed fully and deeply. The origin and development of each method are reviewed, their advantage and disadvantage are analyzed, the nature and the problem of the multivariate statistical techniques are investigated through their course of development and research, their value and significance are revealed, and their potential problems and prospects for future research and development space are explored. The multivariate statistical techniques is the research that has the high value in both theoretical and practical application, and will certainly be conducive to process monitoring, fault diagnosis, and quality improvement.
