General boundary-layer equations governing steady, laminar, hydromagnetic flow and heat and mass transfer over a permeable cylinder moving with a linear velocity in the presence of heat generation/absorption, chemical reaction, suction/injection effects and uniform transverse magnetic field are developed. A similarity transformation is used to transform the governing partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. The dimensionless self-similar equations are then solved numerically by using a standard fully implicit, iterative, tri-diagonal finite-difference method. Comparisons with previously published work on various special cases of the problem are performed and the results are found to be in excellent agreement. A parametric study of the physical parameters involved in the problem is conducted and a representative set of numerical results is illustrated graph
