The optical constants of calcite in the region of the fundamental frequencies are determined by two methods: (1) from reflectance under nearly normal incidence of two surfaces whose normals are perpendicular and under 45° to the optical axis (for the ordinary ray), or parallel and under 45° to the optical axis (for the extraordinary ray); (2) from reflectance of only one surface using the KRAMERS-KRONIG relation.
