A thermal conductivity probe is described which is constructed from heat‐shrinkable tubing, stainless steel tubing, and thermocouple wire. The probe requires about $3 worth of material and 0.5 hours of labor for construction. An example of data used to calculate the thermal conductivity of dry quartz sand is given. The probe is currently being used to acquire data in the field.
