Apparent large failures of perturbation theory in lattice gauge theory at g2 ≤ 1.0 result from the use of the bare coupling constant of the lattice regulator in the perturbative expansion. They can be cured by the use of a coupling constant defined by some physical process. This situation is the same as that encountered in dimensionally regularized perturbation theory, where the use of a coupling constant definition suggested by the regulator (the MS scheme) can make the perturbative expansion appear to be more poorly behaved then it really is.
