Single plastic films, 7×15 or 15×22 mm, were implanted subcutaneously into female CBA/H or CBA/H-T6 mice. Statistically adjusted tumor incidence over a 30-month observation period was 63.5 and 95%, respectively, (or animals receiving these implants. Previous experimental data showed that a tumor became manifest only if one preneoplastic parent cell, or more, arose during the early stage of implant-induced foreign-body reaction. On this premise, established statistical methods showed that the Most Probable Number of such cells is 1 in response to a 7×15 mm implant, and 3 in response to a 15×22 mm implant.
