To point to a genetic factor in coronary artery disease does not deny the possible importance of diet, stress, cigarette smoking, etc. To point to a genetic factor in susceptibility to rheumatic fever does not deny the paramount importance of the streptococcus. If one demonstrates a hereditary...Bibliography1. McKusick VA: The cardiovascular aspects of Marfan's syndrome, a heritable disorder of connective tissue, Circulation 2: 321, 1955. V.A. McKusick (1958) conducted a review in Cardiovascular diseases (atherosclerosis, hypertension, rheumatic fever susceptibility, and congenital malformations). Genetic factors / heredity was evaluated. Heredity plays a multifactorial role in the pathogenesis of the four major types of cardiovascular disease: atherosclerosis, hypertension, rheumatic fever susceptibility, and congenital malformations.
