Treating the complexes [Hg{C⋮CC⋮W-(CO) 2 L} 2 ] (L = HB(pz) 3 ( 1a ), HB(pz‘) 3 ( 1b ); pz = pyrazol-1-yl; pz‘ = 3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl) with 1 equiv of cis -[PtCl 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ] or a catalytic amount of trans -[RhCl(CO)(PPh 3 ) 2 ] provides the bimetallic complexes [L(CO) 2 W⋮CC⋮CC⋮CC⋮W(CO) 2 L] (L = HB(pz) 3 ( 2a ), HB(pz‘) 3 ( 2b )), the first examples of dimetallaoctatetra-1,3,5,7-ynes. Catalytic amounts of [RhCl(CO)(PPh 3 ) 2 ] also provide 2a and 2b in good yields.
