Phormia regina (Meigen) is reported to overwinter in temperate regions in the adult stage (Dondero and Shaw 1971, Roberts 1930, Siverly 1972, Wallis 1962). No attempts, however, were made either to define the exact physiological condition of the flies during overwintering or to determine which environmental factors were necessary for induction of this state.
