SummaryThis study deals with 375 women of parity 10 or more. Fifty per cent of them were not booked for antenatal care. The complications were much less than expected. Antenatal problems included gestational diabetes (4-3 per cent), anaemia (2 patients with haemoglobin < 10 g/dl), severe pre-eclampsia (2 patients, including one HELLP syndrome) and antepartum haemorrhage (5 patients). Caesarean section was performed in 14-1 per cent, compared with 8-10 per cent for all parities in the hospital. There were 10 postpartum haemorrhages. Cord prolapse occurred in 5 patients and uterine rupture in one. There were 7 stillbirths and one early neonatal death.
