The noradrenaline, adrenaline and dopamine content of the bull retractor penis muscle was determined. Dowex 50‐X4 ion exchange columns were used for the purification procedure and for the separation of dopamine from the other catechol amines. The muscle contains con siderable amounts of noradrenaline but it probably is devoid of adrenaline. The dopamine content is about 10 % of that of noradrenaline. It seems possible that the impulses main taining the almost continuous contraction of the bull retractor penis muscle are conducted along sympathetic nerves.
