Fifty-five undergraduates rated three music selections on a like-dislike scale and engaged in a behavioral preference assessment. Data consisted of the number of seconds subjects listened to each of three simultaneously available music selections during a 6-minute time period. Correlations between rating scale responses and listening time responses were r = .58 for “Ein feste Borg”, r = .59 for “Ain't No Use”, and r = .09 for “If You Could ead My Mind”. Definitions are given for common terms relating to the study of music attitude, and methodological suggestions are presented for attitude measurement.
