The deep purple, alkane‐soluble complex Sm(SAr*) 2 ( 1 ) (Ar* = 2,6‐Trip 2 C 6 H 3 ; Trip = 2,4,6‐ i Pr 3 C 6 H 2 ) has been prepared by salt metathesis reaction of SmI 2 with KSAr*. The solid‐state structure shows monomeric units with the metal atom bonded to sulfur atoms of two terminal thiolate ligands (av. Sm–S: 281.6 pm). Additional η 6 ‐π‐arene interactions are observed to two C 6 H 2 rings of the flanking Trip substituents (av. Sm···C: 307.1 pm).
