Dr. Bruce R. Blazar was this year’s honored E. Donnall Thomas lecturer at the Tandem BMT Meetings, held on February 12, 2005, in Keystone, Colorado. Dr. Blazar is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Chief of the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program at the University of Minnesota. He has been at the forefront of the identification of immune mechanisms underlying graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and marrow rejection. Using these observations, Dr. Blazar has developed several strategies to block alloresponses and to facilitate immune recovery after transplantation.
