Summary This article describes how, in Newcastle upon Tyne, we have developed an understanding and practice of consultation into the establishment of a programme to train teachers to facilitate their own school based staff consultation/support groups. The context of this work is described, together with a model structure for such groups, the training programme for facilitators, and the evaluation completed so far.
