Recurrence analysis is a method for the investigation of dynamic behavior changes in a nonlinear time-series. In this study, the application of recurrence analysis methods for detecting and locating composite defects based on drilling signals are proposed. Defects are modelled as different diameter holes drilled inside a composite material. Two composite materials are tested: glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). The smallest detectable defects are determined for both materials. Additionally, the most promising recurrence quantifications are proposed for defect detection and localization.
